This study aimed to assess the breastfeeding compliance of lactating mothers in Barangay 26, Dinagaan, Legazpi City. Specifically, it answered the following subproblems: 1. what is the demographic profile of the respondents in the terms of an age, educational attainment, and occupation, family monthly income to the barangay health workers in age, educational attainment, occupation, no. of years in service and trainings attended 2. What is the knowledge level of the lactating mothers on breastfeeding, stoppage of breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and mixed feeding 3. What is the level of performance of the barangay health worker in the promotion of breastfeeding program as perceived by the lactating mothers? 4. What factors affect the breastfeeding compliance as perceived by the lactating mothers and the barangay health workers 5. What measures maybe proposed to effectively promote breastfeeding compliance among lactating mothers?

This study utilized the descriptive survey method. In gathering the data from the respondents, a questionnaire-checklist had been made, specifically to answer the main as well as the sub-problems of the study. The questionnaire consisted of four parts. Part 1 is about the demographic profile of the respondents which contains the personal profile of the respondents. Part n is about the level of knowledge of the lactating mothers, it contains the knowledge of lactating mothers about breastfeeding, stoppage of breastfeeding, the use of bottle feeding and mixed feeding. Part El generates data about the level of performance of barangay health workers as perceived by the lactating mothers, and Part IV determines the factors affecting breastfeeding. The purpose of the questionnaire is to know the level of knowledge and the level of compliance of the respondents. The data gathered in the study were tabulated and interpreted that answered the questions asked. Statistical treatment was adapted to resolve adequately the problems. To interpret the data, the statistical tools used were frequency count, percentage and ranking.


Based on the analysis of data gathered, it revealed the following findings: most of our Lactating Mothers were 24-28 years of age with 46.15%. Most of the lactating mother’s educational attainment is high school graduate with 53.85%. Most of the lactating mother’s occupations were housewife with 61.54%. The majority of the lactating mothers were having a monthly income of 6,000 to 10,000 PHP with 53.85%.
The barangay health workers were 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, and 35 and above with 25%. The most barangay health workers educational attainment is undergraduate with 50%. Most of the barangay health workers monthly family income was 1,000 to 5,000 PHP with 75%. Most of the barangay health workers have been in the service for 13 - 24 months with 50% and all of the barangay health workers had attended trainings on nutrition program and family program with 36%. Along with the knowledge level of lactating mothers on breastfeeding they mostly
answered yes and they know breastfeeding enhances intelligence and mental development with a 100%. On the stoppage of breastfeeding they mostly answered yes in which why they practice stoppage of breastfeeding is that lactating mothers doesn’t want to breastfeed the while at work with a 76.92%. the lactating mothers on bottle feeding mostly answered yes is that in bottle feeding can be more expensive than breastfeeding the infant with 92.31% on the mixed feeding mostly answered yes to the question “Do you know that the difference between nipples can confuse the baby, causing feeding problems, and interfering with the establishment of breastfeeding?” Has the highest yes with 69.23%. Along with the level of performance of the barangay health workers breastfeeding promotion encourages and promote breastfeeding, provides information breastfeeding and provides materials; written, audio or visual dealing with the feeding of infant and intended to teach pregnant mothers and mothers of infants with a rating of 3 which is interpreted as always and on the factors affecting the breastfeeding compliance is that too busy with household chores with a frequency of 27 and it is ranked as number on on 1.

Based on the findings, conclusions were drawn by the researchers. Most of the lactating mothers in Barangay 26, Dinagaan, Legazpi City were twenty-four to twenty eight years old. Along educational attainment, most of the lactating mothers were high school graduate. Regarding the occupation of the lactating mothers most of them are housewives. Some of them are vendors and on money lending. Most of the lactating
mothers earned six thousand to ten thousand pesos per month. On the other hand the most Barangay Health Workers were twenty to twenty-four, twenty-five to twenty-nine, thirty to thirty-four, and thirty-five and above. Along educational attainment most of the Barangay Health Workers were Undergraduate and some of them were at college graduate, and high school graduate. Most of the Barangay Health Workers earned one
thousand to five thousand pesos per month. Some of the respondents earned six thousand to seven thousand pesos. The barangay health workers have been in the service for thirteen to twenty four months and all of the barangay health workers had attended trainings on nutrition program and family program. The data gathered on the knowledge, of the lactating mothers on breastfeeding results on that all of them know that breastfeeding enhances intelligence and mental development of their infant. The knowledge of the lactating mothers on the stoppage of breastfeeding results that most of the lactating mothers are at work so the babies are not breastfeed. The knowledge of the lactating mothers on bottle feeding results that most of the lactating mothers know that bottle feeding is more expensive than breastfeeding. The knowledge of the lactating mothers on mixed feeding results that most of the lactating mothers know the difference between nipples can confuse the baby. The level of performance of the barangay health workers on breastfeeding promotion results that most of the respondents answered most of them “encourages and promote breastfeeding, provides information on breastfeeding and provides materials; written, audio or visual dealing with the feeding of infant and intended to teach pregnant mothers and mothers of infants” in which is interpreted as always. The factors that most affect the breastfeeding compliance of the lactating mothers are that they are too busy with household chores and next is that the lactating mothers are at work so they cannot breastfeed their infants.

Based from the conclusion of the study, recommendations were given to the lactating mothers. The lactating mothers in our present generations would say that breastfeeding shows the result of what they have become today. In terms of the good development and proper enrichment of the infants unsupplied needs especially after birth.

To achieve this lactating mother must be positive in all aspect in which they must set a goal in life to achieve it like breastfeeding it is important to provide time and effort when performing it is not only for the benefit of the baby it encompasses bonding or a first intimate relationship with their infants. Breastfeeding is a part of a man’s food chain since birth not only for its benefits that gives to an infant but the practicality of it when
being applied to our economy and lifestyle. The barangay health workers are the primary medical advocate of well in the barangay as the present generations continue. Thus all of us will be replaced but the knowledge in which is learned can be transferred, can be earned, and can be given an importance for the future generations.
