ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to recognize the experiences of lesbians and their specific coping skills utilized and be able to formulate measures to address experiences among nursing lesbian students. The researchers hope to gain an in-depth view and analysis of the phenomenological structure of homosexuality/lesbianism through understanding of lived experiences and their meaning. In-depth conversations conducted in a face-to-face interview with informants using a query guide typical with qualitative studies will be utilized with high priority for keeping the confidentiality of the participants of this research.

The study aims to determine the experiences of lesbians in a College of nursing and health sciences. The study sought answers to the following questions: 1) what is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of age and religion? 2) What experiences are considered by the lesbians as discriminatory related to clinical exposures, peer acceptance, leadership in group tasks? 3) What coping skills were utilized by the participants during those experiences of discrimination? And 4) What measures may be proposed to reduce if not totally prevent discrimination among lesbians in the college academe?
