Health impact of electronic devices on UST-Legazpi Senior Highschool students - Loyola, Mark Arjun L., Atienza John Michael L.. Sanchez Jesus III N. October 2018 - 60 cm.

ABSTRACT

In recent decades electronic devices have become glued into our daily lives, especially by young people with little consideration given to the possible health risks they pose.

The study aimed to determine the common electronic devices used, time spent using these devices and the impact on the health of the UST-Legazpi Senior High School students. This study was conducted in UST-Legazpi, Rawis Legazpi City7, among the 11th and 12th grade senior high school students. The respondents answered a three-part questionnaire inquiring about the common electronic device used, impact on the mental, physical/physiological, and social health, and their recommendations on the proper use of the devices.

The most common electronic device used by die students is the smartphone. Most of the students used smartphones for than 4 hours but less than 8 hours daily, and for 12 hours or more, implying that there is heavy- usage of the devices. For mental health, most of the students agree that they cannot go through the day without then devices indicating device dependence. Lastly, the students also heavily rely on their devices for affect social health.

As a recommendation, in activities that encourage researchers suggest that the students participate more students to actively join in socially related activities, slowly 0f the devices, and provide awareness to students about minimize time away from the use of mobile health (mHealth) devices and apps that help in the health and health related behaviors.
