ABSTRACT

Paitim, Bienvinedo L.Jr., Esplana, Angelica B., Conde, Sieko Mane "THE PROSPECTS OF THE TEN HERBAL MEDICINES APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH (DOH)", (Unpublished Undergraduate Thesis, University of Santo Tomas- Legazpi, Rawis Legazpi City, October 2015).

For millions of people, living in rural areas of developing countries, herbal medicines, traditional treatments and health practitioners are the main sometimes the only source of healthcare. This utilized is a descriptive design. The participants who purposively chosen, of eight (8), two mothers, two albularyos, two elderly people, and two students. Data gathered through observation and one-on-one interview which were used to formulate the conclusion. The key informants were the two BHW assigned in the community. The interview guide, one-on-one interview and audio interpreted using coding, were recording were utilized. Narrative responses were clustering, and thermalizing.

The most commonly identified plants akapulko, sambong, lagundi and guava. They way of preparation is by mincing and bruising the leaves then boiling it like a tea. These medicines were used to treat fever, cough and colds, headache and abdominal. The manner of administration is by polices or consumed orally. The mentioned that they relied on members of the community to provide on utilizing the medicinal plants. Were participants insight and their own personal experiences Consequently, they addressed the lack of knowledge and spoke actively in wanting to be more knowledgeable. Therefore, the research suggested that lectures, mother’s class, and seminars should be given to promote the proper utilization of the medicinal plants and dissemination of information. The research concluded that all the participants exhibited insufficient knowledge on the ten Herbal Medicines and all shared their willingness to learn more. This research recommended the participants to enhance their knowledge by going to seminars, lectures, mother’s class. As well as providing leaflets, and hands-on approach, demonstrations which will instill the knowledge on the proper utilization of the Ten Herbal Medicines approved by the DOH.
